Officially known as the Kingdom of Cambodia, this is a country that lies to the Southeast Asia and covers approximately 181,035 square kilometers. With more than 15 million people residing in this country, tourism is considered to be the second most sources of hard currency, with 2 million visitors recorded in the year 2007. In this post, we will be taking a glance at the most interesting tourist spots in Cambodia:
It is a seasonal freshwater lake which is largest in the South East Asia and is of great importance to Cambodia. This beautiful lake maximizes its area in the month of June when heavy rainfall begins. There are several small floating villages around this lake that make an interesting and eye pleasing attraction for the visitors.
It is a temple which is officially known as “Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot” which means “Temple of the Emerald-Crystal Buddha”. This temple is located within the royal palace compound and the Silver Pagoda was inlaid with more than 5,000 silver tiles and some of its outer facades were remodeled with Italian marble. However, only a small area of these tiles are available to be viewed by the public on entering the pagoda. The temple ground is also used for performing various national and royal ceremonies.
A popular temple of Angkor, Bayon consists of a multitude of serene and smiling stone faces on the many towers. The outer wall of the outer gallery features a series of bas-reliefs that gives the impression that sculptures have been raised above the background plane. The sculptures here depict historical events and scenes from the everyday life of the Angkorian Khmer.
White sands and turquoise green waters, Koh Rong is simply the island paradise of Cambodia and is also one of the most spectacular beaches in the Gulf of Thailand. The pristine forests that lie to the inside of this beach is also an interesting spot for those who wish to take a glimpse of birds and wildlife.
