Where to Buy a SIM Card – Singapore

Prepaid SIM Card in Singapore

Prior to travelling overseas, one is involved in various activities related to travelling like applying for a visa, arranging travel insurance, packing, getting foreign exchange etc. Being engaged in all the preparation, one tends to forget small but important things like arranging a prepaid SIM card for the purpose of keeping in touch with family and friends. As a result, the traveller undergoes the hassle of looking for SIM cards after reaching the visiting country. In this blog, we select Singapore as the visiting country and guide you on how to buy a prepaid SIM card in Singapore, while you are on a trip?

Service Providers in Singapore

There are 3 major telecommunications or Telco’s providing cellphone services known for offering quality services in Singapore, namely, Singtel, StarHub, and M1.

Where Can I Buy a Prepaid Sim Card

A prepaid SIM card of any of these providers can be taken from Changi airport and the customer service outlet of each aforementioned service provider. Most of these stores open at 7 in the morning and close at 11 in the night, however, if you have landed at an odd time you may purchase a SIM card from any 7-Eleven Store within the city.

Best Prepaid SIM

Singtel offers hi! card, StarHub provides Green Prepaid, and M1 offers the M-Card.
The best package to choose is one which offers both voice and data. You can avail a SIM card with the data and voice package for as low as $10, however, keep in mind that you need to show your passport to purchase one.

If you opt for a package which provides data along with voice, you may be able to use the internet for checking mail and using social media for uploading photographs.

Once you’ve purchased a SIM card, insert it in your handset and it will automatically be activated. You will receive a text message welcoming you to the network. After the SIM card is activated, the credit is usually valid for up to 6 months. When the credit runs out or the expiration date is due, all you need to do is return to top up by purchasing a top-up card staring from $18 and onwards. Passport is not required to buy a top-up card.

Other Alternative: Roaming Apps

You may also use roaming apps which offer cheapest international roaming charge, to keep in touch with your friends, family, and co-workers, while travelling abroad. Various roaming apps provide a combination of other services apart from offering low cost international roaming charges, which includes SIM card top-up facility, receiving incoming calls of home country number while travelling abroad, to name a few.
