Travel Books to Never Leave Home Without – Travel Reading

travel-reading

Travelling and reading are two activities that go hand in hand. Sitting on the flight with that favourite novel of yours is simply a ‘made my day’ thing for most of us.  If you are also a travel fanatic and an avid reader, then here are some ‘not to miss’ travel books for you:

The Alchemist

Alchemist

For those who wish to follow their dreams, find the true meaning of life and one’s destiny, this book is a must read. There are numerous quotes to inspire and amaze you towards your dream journey. This international bestseller was written by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho  and was first published in 1988.

On the Road

On the road

Written by American writer Jack Kerouac, this novel is based on the travel experiences of the Kerouac and his folks. The most interesting thing is that the Sal, the main narrator of the story, goes through a lot of adventures and becomes a better individual gaining more confidence and stronger mindset.

Vagabonding

Vagabonding

Written by the American travel writer and essayist, Rolf Potts, this is one of my favourite travel novels. Why? Well, this was the first book that I read when I was new to travelling. The amazing quotes and inspirational insights are really helpful for planning trips and tours. Since this one is special to me, seems like I am going to read it again pretty soon!

Notes from a small island

On the road

Bill Bryson, the author of this book, fills it up with absolute humour and heart-whelming nostalgia. His farewell journey across the Britain brings insight to places with some of the most bizarre names. Author’s impeccable enmity towards these places is simply worth reading.

Coasting

Coasting

A 4,000 miles journey in a 32-foot ketch and a navigation compass – that’s what Coasting is all about. Written by Jonathan Raban, this book is a metaphor for the author’s own journey of life. One famous quotation from the book goes like- “For years I coasted from job to job, place to place, person to person. At the first hint of adverse weather, I hauled up my anchor and moved on with the tide.”

So, the next time you are off to somewhere, do keep one of these travel books in hand for a joyful travel reading experience.
